Enamel Suffragette Pendant
What a beautiful piece of history! This 18K gold and enamel suffragette pendant not only looks fabulous in a contemporary jewelry wardrobe, but its story is equally appealing. Crafted with pink and purple tourmalines, peridot, pearls and white enamel, c 1910, this pendant served to declare the wearer’s allegiance to the cause of votes for women.
From 1903–1917 The Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) the leading militant organization campaigning for Women’s suffrage in Great Britain, adopted the color scheme of violet, white and green: purple symbolized dignity, white purity, and green hope. These three colors were used for banners, flags, rosettes and badges. We’ve added a light and lacy cable chain which allow the wearer to clasp on any loop, for maximum versatility. Total chain length is 20” We vote YES on this necklace!
