For Love and Luck Vintage Ring
One of the most unique gimmal rings we have seen! A gimmal ring, or gimmel ring, is a ring with multiple bands that fit together to form one complete ring. The name gimmal comes from Latin gemellus, meaning “twin”
In the 16th and 17th centuries, such rings were fashionable in England, Germany, and other countries, and were often used as betrothal rings. The engaged couple would wear one hoop each and rejoin them to use as a wedding ring. This unique ring features seven 14K rose gold bands, each topped with a silver letter set with rustic diamond slices, spelling out the word “Bonheur.” The French bonheur translates to happiness, luck or the emotion experienced when in a state of well-being. The bands are held together with a pin hinge so that they do not ever come completely apart. We believe the ring to be 19th century, but could be later. A lucky find for any vintage-loving franco-phile!
